Tonelería Murúa, an example to follow at the Venice Biennale

The design of the new Tonelería Murúa facility in Navarrete has been presented at the Venice Biennale 2023 as an example of efficient and ecological design and production plant. We are proud to be an example for other production plants at this essential event for lovers of sustainable architecture committed to the future.

The Venice Biennale is one of the most important and prestigious events in the world of architecture. An international exhibition that brings together the best architects, designers and artists from all over the world. It is a unique event that hosts innovative exhibitions and conferences where the future of contemporary architecture is debated. Under the name “The Laboratory of the Future”, this 18th edition of the Biennale has focused on urgent issues such as climate change and major migrations.

Tonelería Murúa has had the good fortune to be part of the Spanish pavilion at the Biennial, with the designs of Patricia Ajá, architect of LKS KREAN Ingeniería y Arquitectura. This work has been integrated into the FOODSCAPES project. It is an audiovisual and photographic exhibition that examines the agro-architectural panorama of Spain, analysing current food systems and the architectures that make them possible.

Within the framework of this project, the new headquarters of Tonelería Murúa has been an example of how a change of business paradigm is possible. A model that focuses on innovation, quality and performance without forgetting our commitment to sustainable development and the preservation of our traditions and our territory.

The architectural design of our new headquarters has been conceived in such a way that it blends in with the natural environment in which it is located. From its conception to its day-to-day operation, measures have been taken to minimise environmental impact and promote sustainability in all areas. Not surprisingly, up to 282 solar panels have been installed to generate clean electricity, significantly reducing our dependence on non-renewable energy sources. This not only reduces Tonelería Murúa’s carbon footprint, but also promotes the use of clean energy in the region and the use of wood from sustainable sources only.

Tonelería Murúa has been an inspiring example in Venice of how a company can be sustainable and committed to ecology and the environment. Through conscious architectural design, the use of renewable energies, and an efficient logistical organisation, Tonelería Murúa demonstrates its leadership in protecting the environment and its commitment to a greener future.
