Preservation and commissioning of a barrel

Before leaving the cooperage, we check 100% of the barrels for leaks. However, at certain times of the year, due to a very dry environment, strong temperature changes during transport or sudden movements during delivery, the barrels may be susceptible to leaks. Please note that wood is a living element that responds to the environment around it.

Preservation of the barrels before filling:

If you are unable to fill the barrel when it arrives at your winery, please note the following:

  1. Keep in the original packaging until you are going to fill it.
  2. Keep the barrel in a humid place 75-80º C and at a constant temperature of 15-20º C.
  3. Avoid draughts, never leave the barrels in corridors or in front of doors where there may be draughts.
  4. Keep barrels in darkness and in the absence of direct sunlight.

If you have any doubts about the correct transport or if you see any defects in the packaging, please let us know.

The barrels should be filled as soon as possible, however, if for any reason you are unable to do so, please follow the instructions below:

  1. Put 20-30 litres of hot water inside the barrel.
  2. Turn and tilt the barrel for 5 minutes.
  3. Leave the barrel for 12 hours on the bottom.
  4. Turn the barrel upside down and leave the barrel for 12 hours on the other bottom.
  5. Empty the barrel and start filling with wine.
